Recurring Hinge Break Issue – Need a Permanent Fix

I purchased a Dell laptop, trusting the brand’s quality, but I’ve had nothing but frustration with a recurring hinge issue. Despite handling my laptop with care, the hinge has broken three times within a short period.

  • First break: 2 months in (repaired under warranty)
  • Second break: 5 months later (repaired again)
  • Third break: Another 5 months, broken AGAIN

Each time, Dell’s official technicians repaired it, yet the issue keeps coming back. This is not due to misuse—it’s a clear design flaw. As a student, I rely on my laptop for classes, and this constant problem has caused major inconvenience and financial loss.

I need a real, permanent fix, not just another temporary repair that will fail again in a few months. Is Dell acknowledging this issue? What is being done to resolve it for affected customers?

I’m extremely disappointed and considering switching brands after this experience. I hope Dell can provide a real solution this time. <All of your private data has been removed from public view. DELL-Admin>

@ejn63 So you're saying I should just accept a faulty design as normal? If it's so 'flimsy' that I need to use both hands like some delicate artifact, then why does Dell even sell it under the pretense of quality? Why advertise durability when they know the hinges are a ticking time bomb?

If a product can't last a year without breaking multiple times, then maybe they should stop pretending to be a premium brand and just admit their 'consumer-grade' products are disposable junk.

@ejn63 I barely opened and closed the lid after the second repair, yet the hinge still broke. This isn’t about mishandling—it’s a recurring issue with Dell’s design. Plenty of users have faced the same hinge problem, and it keeps happening even with careful use. If a laptop can’t last even a year without multiple repairs, that says more about its build quality than how it's being used.

@ejn63 i agree with you, but it broke only in three months, is this what i get for 40k or 450 dollars, that it can't even withstand 3 months in it's new condition

@itsagarwal12 i had to get it repaired unofficially by a local repair shop, you should think about it too

my laptop now even lags when it is not plugged in and battery health shows 100

@user_ffbc98 ikr this is their build fault and poor desgin, and they have audacity to blame it on customers, if this is the case where i can't open this thing normally like a laptop and treat it like some delicate piece, then why don't they mention it in user manual and say please don't close our laptop like this, you will hurt your laptop

I am in constant talks with them for the same issue. They keep denying that they have a problem they blame it on Time based wear. But I know I bought of the laptop and in 8 days it broke. I have service records. They are cheating customers off money. They give 90 days warranty not a permanent fix all on your expense. It's a design flaw from dell's end and customer is paying price. I have even told them that you are not fit to hold an iso 9001 certification you fail to isolate recurring issue, keep customer complaints hanging, manipulate conversation and many more

If this is a common issue with Dell, I suggest they should have enough spares to repair against customer requirements. Now I have raised an onsite service call, the response time is so long that I have to wait 10-14 days to get it repaired. I checked with the nearby authorized service center, even they don't have stock of common spares. And the funny part is I requested them to place the order for spares and agreed them that I would pay in advance so that I could use the laptop until the spare arrives. But as per Dell's policy the laptop has to be kept at the service center until the spares arrives.
