I want upgrade my laptop (DELL Latitude E6430, 14") from its current processor intel i5-3340M @ 2.70GHz to intel i7-3540. I also want to add an extra DDR3 SODIMM 8GB RAM 1600 to make it 16GB RAM overall. I want to know if this will be possible for my laptop and whether or not its compatible.
I'm not an expert in replacing and upgrading hardware and would appreciate if someone could tell me what steps I should take once receiving the RAM and CPU chip if its feasible.
I also intend to buy a bigger capacity battery at some point because my current one (5200mAh) drains quite quickly.

Only you can decide that -- but the E6430s go for between $25 and $50 complete and working on EBay, so add up the cost of the upgrades against that number. You may be able to find a newer system for about or even less than what you'd pay for upgrades on this one.

Welcome to the Dell Community @OB456
This is your CPU upgrade list.

The 17-3540M is one of them.
2 x8GB for a total of 16GB will work with no problems.

You have 4 different batteries you can have for your laptop.
There is the 6 cell, 9 cell, media bay and slice.
