In case you are unhappy with the printer drivers available in Linux for your Canon printer, or if you can't find one that works with it, this is worth a try. Don't expect full support for your printer, like ink cartridge level checking, full hi-res (high dpi) support, etc., but if you can find it mentioned in this link, you might find the results satisfactory.

If you do some digging around, newer printers are supported by Canon with Linux drivers, but you have to do some fishing around on their Austrailian web site. My printer wasn't listed, so I didn't bookmark the web site.
