DirectX 11 Problems

I've ben having problems with a game recently with error messages showing up so i decided to look up the issues online. they said there may be a problem with directX. So I went onto DxDiag.

Directx: When I go onto "Directx Diagnostic Tool" a message comes up saying " DxDiag has detected that there might have been a problem accessing Direct3D the last time this program was used. Would you like to bypass Direct3D this time?" When I click "No" an error comes up saying "DirectX Diagnostic Tool has stopped working". This leads me to believe that something is wrong with my DirectX. When i click yes, all is good.

I have tried looking up directX fixes and on this microsoft site "http://windows.microsoft.com/en-au/windows7/diagnosing-basic-problems-with-directx" and under "check your video card" but when I get up to the second step and click advanced settings, windows explorer crashes and resets itself.

I have tried running a "Complete" Dell diagnostic however a few minutes into the diagnostic comes a message saying "windows is out of memory try closing some programs" and then it crashes and fails. also when I do a hardware check within the "My Dell" application, when it gets up to checking the graphics or video card it crashes.
