T3600 cpu upgrade, without regard for cooling
Hello,
I have a question regarding cpu upgrade, i saw other forum topics that suggest that xeon e5-2600 series are supported on t3600 however i want to make sure.
I am considering between E5-2697 v2, E5-2690 v2, E5-2687W v2 and E5-2680 v2.
I have the 600w psu version in my t3600 and cooling is not a problem as fans are at high in room with about 5 degrees.
Is t3600 able to handle those cpus if cooling is not a regard ?

i updated dell t3600 bios to A17, so my question is this, can i upgrade my cpu to ivy briedge v2 processors

No. The T3600 is limited to Sandy Bridge CPU's.

I still did some further research. The 26XX CPU's in the big list above are also compatible with chipset C602, among a few others.
So the E5-2697 v2 is outside of specs with that max of 8-core thing. I don't know if other users have tried it. 2 ways to find out though. UserBenchmark and YouTube. UserBenchmark more likely having credibility. I didn't find any V2's compatible with the T3600. https://www.userbenchmark.com/System/Dell-Precision-T3600/1882

So more than 8 cores cpus are not supported ? Does it boot with one anyway ?
TDP is not a problem if i exclude the E5-2687W v2.
Especially i am interested if E5-2697 v2 would work.

with chipset support for c602 which t3600 is using and the mentioned cpu 2697 v2 is listed there so it should work but i am not sure if the bios supports it.

I'm not sure if the BIOS supports it either. I don't know if any of our other experts have a way researching it either. What I can mention is to make sure your T3600 is on the latest BIOS. The latest BIOS for it might already be a few years old with the T3600 being introduced in 2012.
If you do update BIOS, and the size 2032 CMOS battery is 5+ years old, replace it first. BIOS updating is sensitive and the last thing one needs is a bad battery causing problems.
If you try the E5-2697 V2, make sure it comes with something for a return policy.

Hi all,
The E5-2697 V2 is definitely not compatible. I've tried it. As Brad said, 4, 6, and 8 Core support
Up to 130W will work on 2000 series processors.

As long as the CPU is socket LGA 2011 and goes with chipset Intel® C600 series. The V2 CPU's listed are C602.
