Encryption not working after BIOS upgrade last year
Inspiron 7500. Windows Encryption was running, and then last year Dell sent out a Bios update. Then I had icons with something around them (I don't recall, maybe a lock?), and my fingerprint reader quit working. Basically, encryption quit working. First support agent wanted me to wipe computer and reinstall. I said that was not acceptable, asked to be escalated. Next person turned off encryption, so the icons on my icons went away and fingerprint returned to working. But, when I tried to go into Windows Encryption it was not there. If I go into "System information" it shows under "Device Encryption Support" message "Reasons for failed automatic device encryption: PCR7 binding is not supported, Un-allowed DMA capable bus/device(s), TPM is not usable". So, I then took it upon myself to backlevel my bios to a version from February 2021. Problem fixed, that message is gone and the encryption options return. But, as soon as my computer automatically applied BIOS update again, it broke again.
Finally called again today... again, he wanted me to wipe my computer, or maybe send a technician to replace hardware. I explained this is NOT a hardware or OS problem, as I can backlevel my BIOS and the problem is fine. THEY HAVE A PROBLEM IN THE BIOS! He said he has no way to esclaate or contact anyone regarding BIOS... WHAT!??.
Any ideas on resolution or how to get someone at Dell to care? I'm really surprised nobody else has complained. The only options available to me are to backlevel my bios again and carefully watch to make sure it doesn't update again, but this has security concerns IMO. And, other option is to not use Encryption, but again, that is risky and I should be able to use it. Anyone at Dell listening?
