Short Circuit = Burnt Transistor; help!
Hello,
I just removed my mini-pci WLAN card from my Inspiron 8500. However, I forgot to unplug the power connector. As I removed the card, one of the metal holding clips bent out and touched a transistor (I think, could be a resistor) on the motherboard resulting in a blue flash as I assume the transistor became grounded.
My system now doesn't power on at all, I have checked inside and there don'tt seem to be any other damaged components apart from the transistor, which has a small burn mark on it.
Is there anything I can do? My warranty has expired and I have no idea about sending my laptop off to Dell.
I would appreciate any information regarding possible fixes, workarounds or sending my laptop to Dell (including prices).
Thanks,
