I#942 not printing

Question

I have printer #942, got new black and white cartridge but message stating 'make sure tape is off' keeps coming up despite the tape being completely off. I have shaken the cartridge but this does not seem to help. Any ideas?  Thanks!!

Clean the printed circuit contact area on the printer and on the cartridge with either alcohol (preferred) or if not a slightly dampend cloth then wipe dry. Reinstall the cartridges and try again.  If it's still bad, put the old one back in and see if that gives the same error or if it works OK.  If the old cartridge is OK, the new one is defective and you will either need to call Dell for a warranty replacement or if you bought it locally take it back for replacement.  There is an IC inside the cartridge and if the IC is defective it would cause the problem you have.

Hey, thanks for your help! I did take your suggestion to clean the cartridge and printer terminals but it still did not work so I contacted Dell and they are sending a new one. I appreciate your help!
