5. Connector for a Card reader as the name indicated. It is used to connect an optional card reader module.
For #5, optional Card Reader can be purchased and install to the system. See example items on big auction site then search for it in your region/market, using item description or Dell part number TT15C.
Exactly the information I was looking for ! Too bad Dell 'forgot' to include it in the manual.
There is one more connection that I'd like to know about. It's labeled "FAN_SYS" and has 4 solder points, but no header and pins. It's next to the card reader header.
Like all SFF models, the 3050 suffers from poor cooling, which is a serious issue in such a small box.
As it happens, there are mounting holes right behind the front bezel for exactly what this box needs: a chassis cooling fan. Between the labeling of the missing header and the fan mount, it seems that someone forgot to connect the dots.
The Dell part number for the fan is 725Y7. If you get one, make sure it comes with mounting pins.
The questions are these:
1) what is the pinout order of the solder points on the system board ?
2) is power being delivered to those points ?
The second question is easy enough to figure out with a multimeter, and if there is power, the voltages will read on the meter as well.
It would be vastly better to use the system board header, since that will report the fan status.
Plugging the fan into one of the sources coming from the PSU is probably not a great solution, but it beats a pile of melted plastic.
As you know, an outlet for a front chassis fan can't be added on the MB. Aftermarket fans often use molex 4-pin connectors. Use a SATA to molex power adapter and a SATA power splitter. That way, you can power a fan while still powering an HDD/SSD.
Anyways, I take it you were referring to a front chassis fan as the 3050 SFF should already have a rear fan.
If there's room for a front chassis fan, a led fan could even be added. As for fan speed, I added 2 aftermarket led fans to my mini tower and let them run on max. PC sounds normal and pretty quiet. It's unlike if a Dell fan went to warp speed, then it's pretty noisy.
