About a week ago, I sent Dell an email asking which caddy was used by the Optiplex 990. They got back to me a day later, saying that it uses the DN8MY caddy. Unfortunately, that doesn't help me because Amazon has a bunch of caddies which are supposedly identical. I asked on a couple Amazon pages and one person said that the caddies aren't as standardized as they should be and that it's a "buy and try" kind of affair. I'd really like to avoid having to buy a ton of caddies. Has anyone found a caddy which is compatible with the Optiplex 990?
Thanks, I appreciate it, but it's really not what I'm looking for. I'm just looking for a 3.5" caddy like what it came with. I'm using mine as a server with 8TB WD Red 3.5" hard drives. The reason I'm asking around is because some sellers are selling caddies that they claim are compatible but aren't. I bought this one from a seller on NewEgg, but when I received it, I discovered that it didn't fit. in my 990. I also found out that it's rather difficult to get a hard drive in that caddy. Then I went to Amazon and left a question about the fit on the pages for thesetwo.
Someone replied to my question on the first one with: "Hello, so sorry for that. The caddy is compatible with an Optiplex 990.But I don't know anyone tried this on an Optiplex 990."
Then someone replied to my question on the second one with: "Unfortunately there is no standard shape for these caddies. Pretty much a buy & try."
That's why I started this thread; I was really hoping to hear from people who have found a caddy which worked in their 990. I just realized that I should have specified that I have the mini tower version.

If you are going to use a SSD instead of a 3.5" hard drive, you'll need an adapter too.
I have the Optiplex 3020.
