Problem with printer order

On 4-4-12, I ordered a printer by phone and requested the $68 3 year extended warranty.  I found out today that I was charged $48 for the 2 year extended warranty.  Since this was Dell's error when I placed the order, I called and asked that I pay the $20 difference for the intended extra year of warranty.  I was told that was impossible, and that the only way that could be done was do send back the printer and to start the order over.  This is an impractical solution.

A little history, the printer stopped working correctly within three weeks and I had to return the original printer after many long coversations with tech support.  Dell did ship me another printer, but this whole process has not been easy.

I have used Dell products for years but am wondering about the company's customer and tech support.  As a customer, I find that I'm having a lot of problems and the process for resolution is arduous.
