Installing Win98 on a C600
My co-worker's wife bought her company's laptop with the intention of giving it to his mother and getting her feet wet in the world of computing.
It's a Dell Latitude C600, P-III 750MHz, 128MB RAM, 6GB HD, no floppy drive.
It used to have Win2K loaded on it, but his wife's company wiped that out because it was a corporate license. So far so good.
My friend wants to load Win98 on it (he doesn't own Win2K and there isn't enough RAM to support WinXP). Trouble is, he can't use the Win98 boot disk (no floppy drive) and it won't boot from his Win98 CD (it keeps asking for the WinXP Pro CD; it won't accept a Win XP Home CD, which he has from his Dell desktop at home).
I haven't seen the machine myself yet, so I can't answer too many questions about it and I'll be leaving town this afternoon and won't be able to respond to any questions until Sunday anyway, but any help I can get for this guy would be most appreciated. Thanks.
