Hi,

Can anybody confirm exactly what  Dell Reinstall Disk XP Home SP2 p/n h8527 actually contains, is it a Microsoft XP install disk taylored for a Dell PC or is it a Operating system restore disk that will "Ghost" an image of the operating system onto a partition and wipe existing contents.

I am trying to sort a friends Dell Dimension 5000 over the phone (he is 120 miles away), it seems to have a terminal operating system crash and going to the last recovery point has failed. He has the p/n h8527 CD but not much else.

He has data that can't be lost on the hard drive and if the  h8527 cd is an XP install disk then I could try to talk him through the repair process.
