Inspiron 9100 DVD+RW firmware flash failure

Question

Hi, i was updating the firmware on my NEC ND-5100A DVD+RW which came in my Inspiron 9100 and my nephew ran past n caught the power adaptercable, sadly i didnt have the battery in at the time (i had loaned it to my brother who had forgot to bring his a/c adapter and had already depleated his battery) and this caused the system to lose power, when i reconnected it and rebooted it the green light on the drive cam on and stayed on, the eject button isnt working, the bios shows a cd drive present but after that says secondary hard drive 0 not found (which im guessing is the DVDRW as it is sec/mas), and windows cannot find and cd/dvd drives, is there anything i can do to fix this? (im a very advanced user) or am i gonna have to send it back to be repaired?

It is more than likely 'Toast'.  A bad flash is almostnever recoverable.  If you are still under warranty callDell and explain what happened.

if bios can still see it then it might be possible to try reflashing using pure dos provided you can find a dos firmware with which to flash.

Cool, ill try that, just an extra bit of info: when it lost power it had just finished erasing the old firmware but not begun writing the new one so i think its jus blank at the mo
