Inspiron 8600 NEC DVD+RW ND-5100A problem

Question

Recently after burning over 40 dvd backups, my burner has begun giving me problems.  I can view a dvd with the drive but when I put in a blank dvd it does not recognize it and asks me to insert a dvd.  The drive has also begun making strange noises and no longer autoplays when I put a dvd in.  I have to restart my computer after inserting a dvd so that it is recognized.  I am using the same blank dvd's that I have always used and never had any problems with.   Any advice on drivers i need to download or possible fixes would be greatly appreciated before I have to get on hold with tech support.  Thanks.

twentydeuce, Thank you for using Dell's Community Forum. The drive could be dieing, or it could just be a driver issue. Start by deleting the device from the device manager and rebooting.

Any possibility that you may have inadvertently picked up some DVD- media and are trying to use it by mistake?

No i definately am using the right dvd's.  Now the player does not recognize cd's or dvd's and Dell is sending me a new drive.
