Hi 01dabreoo,

Not knowing what Dell system you have, also whether the "useless" drive the only optical drive in your system,
SATA or PATA hard-drive(s), difficult queston to answer.
However, if the old drive is the only one, then you have a vacant connection on the Dell IDE cable.

Best Regards

Hi 01d,

There should be a spare power available, if not you would need to purchase a "Y-splitter"
OK, a couple of things, the 4600 series has two IDE ports and two SATA ports. If you purchased a SATA hard-drive, then your Primary IDE channel is open, I would place the new drive there, then you would need to purchase a 40-pin 80-conductor IDE cable, do not use the one that came with the drive. If you have a IDE hard drive (PATA), then it will be on the Primary IDE channel, so you will need to place the NEC on the same cable with the TEAC, my nickel, set the jumper on the NEC to Cable Select, drop the TEAC drive to the second bay, "middle" connection on the cable, the NEC in top bay, "end" connection.

Best Regards

Hi 01dabreoo,
Sure fire way, open the case, if the cable running to the hard drive is the same type as attached to the optical drive, then it is PATA, if it is a small 7-pin cable, then SATA.
Also clicking on the USer Guides for your system under Product Support Tab, will give you a Specification pages for review.

Best Regards

D,

There should be spare rails for the drive attached to the inside of the case. The User Guide for your system has a section for Adding & Removing Parts, steps, details, pictures...

Best Regards
