yup, there is a hidden recovery partition of about 3Gb & a small diagnostics partition.

I have a Pentium M 730 1.60ghz 2mb Cache , 533 mhz bus and a 1 gig of ram
 
Using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question. It's not a "windows equation", it's how the hard disk manufacturer's describe their drives.  A 100 gb drive will read as 93gb (-7%), minus the restore partion = 90gb.
