I’ve seen that a lot of the DVD burning software on the market is having issues with picking the correct speed to burn at when faced with an 8x +/- drive.
There is not a fix to my knowledge
Let's compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. The same DVD media on your laptop burner with Nero vs the same DVD media on your home DVD burner with Nero is not a fair comparision- sad to say. I have 3 other PCs with DVD burners on them (NEC 3500, NEC 3520, Liteon 832s). I have come to expect different results with the same media and same software on these 3 different burners.
The generic answer, "try different media and different software" is a true answer. I would add to that advice by also trying different firmware of your NEC 6500a dvd burner.

Try another brand of media, and also try another burning software.

That seems to be the generic answer to all questions in this forum, eh?
I have tried other media and different software to no avail, still having the same problem.
Please advise.
