There seems to be less problems using a PCI controller card, but if there's not a spare PCI clot, then I guess, you'll have to use a IDE [PATA] to SATA convertor.   Regards to the brand of card, look at the Promise brand of PCI cards.     Check the hard drive's manufacturer's website for the drive's specifications.

I am in the same boat with a new 4700.  I don't have a PCI slot to spare, so I was looking at this converter:

Kingwin Serial ATA Converter EIDE to SATA
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=578544&CatId=468

Question for anyone - on the 4700, I have a bay at the bottom of the case which has a very short slot (not PCI).  What is it?  I couldn't seem to find any documentation (yet).

Thanks.

Click on Product Support, then User Guides.  You'll find a view of your internal system board and you can match up and figure out what it is you are looking at.  PCIe slot?
