My computer is not recognizing cd devices

Question

I have recently tried to burn cd's. when i select what i would like to burn the program doesnt give me the option to copy to cd. i am using windows media. it only gives me the option to put to a portable device. Well i dont have a portable device. My computer is not recognizing my cd-rom nor is it recognizing my cd-rw. about two weeks ago i was unistalling programs that i thought i didnt need. this is about the time my computer started acting up. I dont really know much about computers. i have tried to restore my pc to a previous date but it doesnt fix the problem. if you have any suggestons please reply. thanks a bunch angenique Arizona
