Remove and reseat the hard drive - then try it again. It's also helpful when posting questions like this to note the laptop model, configuration, and version of Windows you are using.

Sounds like you'll need to re-boot from the Original Windows Disk, i had identical problem, but couldn't resurrec the machine as i found out i was using a copy of Windows.

I have the telephone number of an excellent Microsoft Engineer who has helped me out of this problem twice now, he operates in Hertfordshire, is this any good to you?
