I just successfully downloaded and installed Adobe acrobat Reader 7.0; should I now remove Adobe acrobat Reader 5.1?

I could be wrong but the installer for reader 7.0 should have uninstalled your previous version when you ran its setup.

I believe bacillus is correct. When installing the newer version, the set up should have deleted the older files.

I have been trying to download Adobe 7.0. However, I am stuck at a window that says 'connecting' but it does nothing. anybobody???

The adobe installer does NOT delete the old version. It gets installed under Adobe\Acrobat X.X -- where X,X is teh version #. Go to your add/remove programs under the control panel to remove it.
