Unlike Norton Ghost, TrueImage 8.0 works simply and perfectly and it runs under Windows so you don't need to mess with DOS like with Ghost.

Norton 9 runs in Windows.

Yep, it does. :smileyvery-happy:

I will be testing it tomorrow on my new Seagate 60gb 5200rpm HD when it comes in. :smileyhappy:

Well the Seagate Momentus 60gb 5400.2 model # ST960822A works great, no noise at all and very fast. :smileyhappy:

What I did was put my old Fujitsu 30gb 4200rpm drive in my external USB2 case and didn't format it.

When I copied all the partitions over to the new drive it seem to go well, but Windows wouldn't boot all the way and it seemed the MBR didn't copy over correctly.

So I zeroed out the new drive and installed everything fresh. :smileyhappy:

I should have done that the first time as it works alot faster without all the added software I don't use anyway.

Just to bring those interested up to date on this thread I started:

Norton Ghost WILL run under windows but it WON'T do a simple cloning or image creation so the hidden Dell partitions work properly on boot up. See the above post if you doubt it.

I tried Ghost with no luck. Now, I use TrueImage 8.0 and it works just as easily as I described. If anyone can get Ghost to do what TrueImage 8.0 does so simply and effectively, please actually test your results by booting to both hidden partitions and then listing the steps for us.

Thanks.

Yeah I wan't really that worried about the Dell partitions as I am a PC tech so I do my own support, don't need their tech support really. :smileywink:

I left my old drive intact in my USB2 external slimline HD case so I still have then and I did do backups of both and burned them onto CD also.

I like the drive clean like it is now, but then that is me and it isn't recomended to delete the Dell Partitions.

Ghost 2003 will clone and copy the hidden Dell diagnosic partition.  I know because I have performed this operation successfully.

Oh Ghost 9 copied the Dell diagnosic partition and Restore partitions fine. And the diagnosic partition worked fine after. The problem was that the restore partition didn't work because for some reason the MBR was messed up and it wanted to assign the restore partition a drive letter. Well I fixed the drive letter problem, but it still didn't work and Windows wouldn't boot all the way either. So I got tired of messing with it and wiped out the HD.

I do however still have my old drive just as I pulled it out with everything intact and working so if one day I feel like messing with it again I can. Plus I have images of both the restore and Diagnosic partitions burned onto CD's.

We use Norton Systemworks Pro every time when renewal is necessary. It has Norton Anti-Virus and Norton Ghost.  We use the Ghost to clone all our students HDDs. They work perfectly as backups and we have used them numerous times to re-install their files when corrupted for one reason or another.
We get Norton SW Pro or Premiere at great prices off the internet so we can pass on the savings to our students. Many of which can do their own cloning as easy as jumping off a log. Anyone can do that too! MP.
