Now when i run program "ddup1249.exe" i get:

Error Acessing utility partition while updating delldiag.ini file.
Code 709

I created a FAT32 partitionand change the type of that first partition from 0xBE (FAT32)  to  0xDE (Dell Utility partition)
It is ofcoarse empty however, since i dont have the original contents of it with the diagnostic software that its supposed to contain.

From the error message i take it cannot update since it has nothing to update.

I think my only option is to get an actual image of the partiton with its contents.

Now what i would really like to know is if the "dell Systems and Utility" cd wich u can boot from into dell diagnostics, contains the exact same as the dell diag partition.

DELL DRIVER CD:\DIAGS\INSP32\A1249

since it contains "delldiag.ini " in folder: \A1249

If its the exact same i can easily copy the contents to the dell diag part ni id mode 0xBE (FAT32)  and there after change it to 0xDE.

I am going to try that, if the update works then i hope i was sucessfull. I still wonder though if the cd has the exact same diag software as the dell diag partition.

Upd. Tried that, but wont update,..so i guess no sucess,

ok i have made the image and put it on my new 60/7200 drive on my I6000 and it works like it should. if you have a clean not partition drive and have ghost boot disk I could e-mail you my image.

Yes pls, do send me the ghost image via mail, this really saves my day. Thanks a bunch.

Lucky me there are people more security conscious in making backups before hasting it like me.

I use ghost bootdisk too.
Just to veryfy Is it the original inspiron 6000 diag partition u have imaged, or is it taken from your Inspiron 8200.
Probably they are the same anyway.

I created a yahoo account for the occasion. Should be able to host up to 250 MB it says.

patikm75@yahoo.se   ...

Is there any chance u can add a CRC verification file, *.md5  to the image ,...so i know nothing has been corupted in the data transfer? but not totally nescesary ofcoarse.

I am extremely greatful for the helpout.

You may have experienced a problem because the 'DE' type DellUtility partition is supposed to be a FAT16 or FAT16x depending if it is under or over 32Mb in size, not a Fat32.

Boppo,

Man Filesanywhere are playing nasty, they say u have 50 megs, but they dont say file size of download is limited to 2 mb! Just experienced that.
I cannot download 7 mb big file in one chunk unless i upgrade $

...just remebered a much better service that i have actually used, rapidshare.

http://ul2.rapidshare.de/cgi-bin/upload.cgi      is much better, there is no filesize download limit!

just upload and when its done, the links for the direct download are presented at the bottom, copy and paste here.

http://ul2.rapidshare.de/cgi-bin/upload.cgi        < download filesize is not limited in this one :P

just upload and when its done, it will present links to the direct downloads it has created at the bottom of the page, and just copy and paste them.
Sorry for the complication. Thanks for sticking by me, thisone will work.

It will look something like this at the bottom after the Upload has finished:

patrikm,

you can't make a image of the one that came with the I6000 cuz of the code and the pc restore on the drive. What I did is use the I8200 and then use the update software on dells site to upgrade the util partition for the I6000 and it is the same as the I6000 but you don't get the blue dell splash. I also have a I6000 and I put a 60/7200 drive in it and used the same util that I am trying to send you. it is just like the one that came with the I6000 system.

U seem to have solved things quite smoothly with the code problem, cool to hear.

I was inside the yahoo mail, but something is fishy since it didnt recieve a test mail i sent out by hotmal.

Can we try filesanywhere instead. I Created an accout that host 50 mb.
