Set the jumper to Cable Select on the Hard drive.

well that didnt fare well. I removed old hdd(sata) and connected new one (ata w/adapter)...nothing.
so i switched ports with the sata cables... still in same boat. system doesnt recognize new hdd.

thanks for the reponse!

 

i cannot find documentation on the sata drive to determine what is cable select.

and no when i installed both it found neither hdd.

(does that help?)

i would have to say no. so i would remove original hdd, connect the new one and reboot? (by remove i meant to say disconnect it from system?)

Does the bios see the drive?

All drives should be set to Cable select.

Correct, put in the new SATA drive and see if the bois sees it.

unless due to the fact that the 80gb is a sata, i dont need to set it as anything, correct?

i did that already, by removing the jumper on the 200gb and the 80gb hdd doesnt "show" me what the jumper settings are. i had to guess. (the manual states that the master hdd needs to be on master settings and the new one as slave, (which is done by removing the jumper).

ok i will remove one of my ide devices and see if that works. I'lllet you know. thanks for your help...

 

(and no computers were harmed during this excercise)

hiyas! I have yet to try to move the hdd to a ide slot. (that would require me removing one of my dvd players. (i have a dvd burner on the other end of the ide cable). i was hoping to use the open sata port.
(thats why i am going with a diff motherboard for my DIY rig)

thanks for the assistance and i shall try anything..(within reason)!!

r i will just give up.. it shouldnt be this dang hard.

with the way its going, i am probably missing a step somewhere.
