Problem with CD/DVD combo drive

Recently, I've noticed that my Samsung SN-324F CD/DVD combo drive is working improperly. Here is a list of my symptoms: - Drive has become very noisy - Can burn CDs but can't read them afterwards - Can read data CDs, audio and DVDs don't work at all - With DVDs, disk speeds up, slows down, makes a couple clicking noises, and repeats until it finally gives up. Opening the files on the drive shows nothing, as if the disk isn't even there. - Drive light and hard disk light both flash at constant frequency when trying to read disk - I've already tried updating and reinstalling the IDE drivers and firmware, no luck Hopefully that'll provide some info about my dilemma. Any help at all will be extremely appreciated. - Shawn.J

I have the same problem with the Inspiron 600M same dvd combo drive, doesnt open any cds to browse.

Yeah, I got a similar problem with my Inspiron 5150, the 324f drive reads cd's 'most of the time'. Sometimes I have to take the disc out and re-insert it.   It will often go all the way through the burn cycle, then fail at the last stage(agghhhhh!).   Anyone know if I can just install a new, or different drive?  The disk tray seems kind of loose and shaky when i open it up. What a piece of junk.   -n

What did dell suggest you, beacuse my drive just started working out of nowhere. I have 20 days to test it out, if it will happen again I will send it right back to dell and get my $ back. Brob go with toshiba.
