I had problems burning DL with the NEC, but only with a few disc manufacturers. I was able to burn Verbatim DL, but DL are pretty expensive, so for now, I just did it to prove I could.
I've had a lot of problems with about half the discs using the Sony DW-D56A on a D610. You may need to try other manufacturers or get the NEC drive back.
I've only had this laptop for a few weeks, i'd be surprised if the firmware is out of date but u never know. Can u give me details of where to find the correct firmware?? there seems to be a few mentioned but to be honest i don't want to screw it up good an proper by using the wrong thing.

Hi, I found the solution after all; it was the firmware. If you search the internet (did you?) you will find the same problems...
The media should never be the problems! If it is then still the firmware is too old.
Just let me know id you need the links where I found the firmware

Or search for an other link...It is a bit of experimenting with it...But at the end you will find it will be working!
