Digital Audio Extraction is a capability included in most recent CD drives. You can examine the properties of your CD drive in the Windows Device Manager. If DAE capability is available, there will be an option to "Enable digital CD audio".

There may also be a setting for Digital or Analog recording in whichever software is used to rip songs from CD. From your post, I gather that neither the itunes nor the Creative software is compatible with ripping from CD in analog mode, so the Analog recording option may not be available in those programs.

Your post indicates you are/were trying to transfer music files (songs) directly from CD to the portable device. It may be easier to rip or record the songs to your hard drive first, using other software, if you have space. After ripping from the CD to the hard drive, transferring files between the hard drive and the portable device should be rather straightforward.
