Hard Drive freeze (2)

Question

Recent occurrance not previously encountered. When cold booting my 8400 after about two to three minutes of operation, sometimes longer, the hard drive appears to go into a hibernate mode. Hard drive indicator light goes amber and the monitor goes to standby. The system will not response to any keyboard command.  The only way to retrieve the system is to power off and reboot.  Normally, after one or two reboots it stays on.  My operating system is XP Pro service pack 2. Options for screen saver, hard drive and hibernate are OFF.

paoc.   Have run the Dell Diagnostics to check the hard drive for signs of failure?  What is the sequence of the diagnostic LEDs at the back of the case?   Bev.

Diagnostics showed no problem with the hard drive but did point out a problem with a 'wanatw4.sys' file. This file is part of AOL's software which I don't used. I removed the file and the AOL software. However, it did not fix the problem. All the LED's remained Green.  That is what makes this a real mystery to me.

Have u check the power management in the BIOS? try checking it, also try reinstalling windows, thus a clean windows installation
