You say you've "had it" for 2 months.  Does this mean you've been fed up for 2 months, or that you've had the machine for 2 mo?  Either way, call dell, explain the problem, and have them dispatch a replacement drive.

Mine is WD 60GB. Now I am wondering if that is software problem since you have a different brand.

That patch is for Western Digital drives. Is your drive that brand?

My drive is Hitachi - with that same clicking sound. No relief for me yet, but I've had too many calls and three replacements - all Hitachis with the same clicking. I've got an 80 gig drive on order, hopefully non-Hitachi brand.

All hard disks make some clicking noises although some are louder than others.
I would check the Western Digital website to see if there is an acoustic programme which you can use to lessen the noise.

Not true. You need to hear that noise to know what I am talking about.

My 700m is 2 months old, has the 7k60 Hitachi, and makes the same obnoxious noise every 2 seconds... has anyone found a fix for this yet? The WD patch doesn't help.

Of course the Western Digital patch doesn't work.  You have a Hitachi.  :smileyindifferent:
