I thought I might mention, (and I might do so in a separate post) that I have Sonic Record Now for my Dell Dim 2400. It's burning data without any issues (as far as I can tell) but when burning CD's I have a few problems.
On some CD's that I burn, I get to the middle of the CD in my stereo (tracks 6-12 for instance) and either they can't be read or they skip like crazy. I can play them in my CD player with out much of a hassle though. This, I'm assuming, is an issue with the CD itself, or perhaps even the stereo, as relates to the common CD burning problem where some players are temperamental with burned CDs.
However, on other CDs that I burn (and I don't have the brand name in front of me at the moment but I can update later on if necessary), I get to the same place on the CD, in ANY player, and it doesn't skip, but it's all static, as if I'm trying to tune those particular songs in via FM Radio.
Considering that everything else seems to burn relatively well, date in particular, my assumption is that it's either an issue with the brand of CD I'm using, or maybe a problem with the software. I really don't think that it's a problem with the drive itself.
I haven't been able to find anything helpful on Sonic's knowledge base, and this board is really the best place I have to talk about this and get some answers. Should I just say the heck with Record Now and get something else? Even if it's just for testing purposes? Would you all like for me to get the brand name of that blank CD when I get home and see if anyone knows of any issues with them?

To add to Jankerson's post, you can check the quality and reliability of your media here:

Datawrite seem to be playing to mixed reviews. I suggest you get Verbatim. If they don't work, you may have a problem with your burner.

Hi,
I had similar problems with this drive. Replace Sonic with alternative software like Nero. It worked for me.

mister-dee wouod like to thank all Forum members for prompt responses.
It seems that I should try "better" media, change the software or keep trying !
I'll try all solutions suggested one by one and see what happens.
Again, thanks to all who replied, a very encouraging start to my Dell experience !
