MAJOR PROBLEM with CDRW/DVD combo UJDA 740 matshita

Question

I have a big problem with this UJDA 740 combo drive.  It's really getting on my nerVES!!!!   I brought home some movies to watch on my inspiron using this drive...   each time i try opening the file...  it just FREEZES... then pops up.. WINDows MEDIA PLAYER IS Not RESPONDING...    so then i try using other programs to watch the movies..  SAME THING HAPPENS.. it FREEZES..  and pops up :  '[program name] IS NOT RESPoNDING'   AND then..  i can't even END the program..  each time i have to shut down the computer and restart it.    Next.. i tried copying the file from the drive using 'windows explorer' and 'my computer'..   SAME THING..   this time.. it says..  WINDOWS EXPLORER not responding.   The files are just regular .avi files.   MY computer is crashing so much.. im afraid it's gonna DIE!   CAN someone pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee help me...  i really like my laptop... it's just the stupid cdrw/dvd combo drive that's KILLING ME!    does anyone have ANY kind of solution?!?!?   also.. is it under warranty?  is it possible to get a replacement?  I just got my inspiron 8500 this september..    i didn't choose the best warranty plan cuz i didn't think stuff like this would happen..    i have the 1-yr return to depot service, 24x7 phone hardware tech support, 365 days a year plan.     Someone please lend me a hand..  any suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated.   THANKs so much. Inspiron 8500 WSXGA p4 2.4 ghz. GeForce 4 4200, 512mb ram, 30 gig hard drive.. hmm, have you tried updating to the latest firmware for the drive? click on the downloads tab at the top of this page

Hi thanks for your post.. I can't find my device under the FIRMWARE download...   all i see is firmware for a docking station.. am i missing something?
