If I recall correctly that particular drive is an E model which is meant primarily for servers.
Can you post the link to that drive so that we can doublecheck?
Latitude C840(converted from Inspiron 8200)
1.6mhz Pentium IV
512mb PC2100 DDR SDRAM
40gb Hitachi 7200rpm-HTE726040M9AT00-UDMA5
HL-DT-ST-GCC-4240N CDRW/DVDROM in Fixed Bay
LS-120 SuperFloppy in ModularBay
Windows XP Pro SP1a
I8kFanGui 2.20
nVidia GeForce2 Go 32mb Video Card
15" SXGA LCD
C/Dock II
Maybe not, but the E7K60 40gb I have is perfectly at home in this C840 Latitude and is very quiet. My impression from the Literature I have seen is that this drive was made to stand up under more demanding conditions in a server, but will also work fine in a laptop.
Whether it'll last as long as it would in a server is open to question. Servers are designed to be always-on - clearly there is a difference between the 7K60 and E7K60 - or there wouldn't be two different part numbers.
It'll be interesting to see how long it lasts in spinup-spindown use, which it wouldn't get with a server.
I checked the specs before buying this one. The specs are identical with a 7k60 except for the monthly hours of operation-732-but the off-on cycles are the same 300,000. I also found a review that said it was capable for both laptop service and server use, but memory is not one of my strong points any longer at 74, and can not remember where it was.

Some like the Hitachi 7200s; I have seen too many of them fail recently to have a lot of trust in them.
I'd go for a Seagate 5400 Momentus long before a Hitachi 7200.

If you want that drive, get the one without the E in the model number (i.e., 7K60, not E7K60).
