Nice job of trying to narrow this down. Since the issue is not the hardware, lets start will some standard steps; click on the CD/RW link in my post and scroll to Section 13-0, article 12 (if you have Sonic`s DLA); Section 15, article 1; Section 20, article 3; Section 11, article 2.

Finally I have had time to try out the things you suggested, but unfortunately nothing has changed. I have also tried uninstalling the Nero Burning ROM but to no help. I cannot use the burner, since the burning programs (Roxio and Sonic) does not find any disk, regardless if I try with the eject procedure I described earlier. Any further suggestions?
