I have a inspiron 4000 that died. The harddrive and data are fine. I need the data and would like to purchase a new or used dell that can take the HDD so I can transfer the data.
If I get a used inspiron 5100 will the drive transfer and boot up. Any other models? Any new models take the drive?
Using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.
Nope. You can buy a usb holder and put the drive in that and use it fine, or a 2.5 to 3.5" adapter to put it in a desktop.
