This doesn't help but I am using the same Philips DVD+RW 8631 and can only access some DVDs and CDRs (cannot read the dell resource CDs error).

interestingly, it is the same disks each time that cannot be read by the DVD+RW. I heard that there is an upgrade for the firmware but have yet to get my hands on it.

Hi Coolbreez & oltool,

The latest Dell firmware for this drive has helped some Members, if you are still interested, here is a link, I used the 8400 series as a reference but the file is the same.

GD30

If this does not help, post back and we will work with this issue some more.

Best Regards

Gentlemen,

Thanks, I updated with an older file BD10.exe which does work but have not tested on any CDRWs or CD+R (which used to work before anyway). Mute point now as we have the latest version. Interesting though predator it allowed me to update with an older version as I purchased PC in April.

Cheers,

Hi oltools,

One can usually flash back and forward with firmwares designed for the drive and ones that are written well!
Also, remember Dell`s orders 10`s of thousands of these drives at a time and they (Dell) do not flash the drives, so it is possible you received a drive, even though New, it could be one with the original firmware release.

Best Regards
