Call and ask. Unless they're advertised otherwise, they are either 5400 or 4200 rpm units.

I had called and I had asked, but the only people available today are technical support, and they say that only the sales department has that information. But the sales department won't be in business until Tuesday. However, this seems to be a one day sale online. That's why I logged on here to seek help. I know it's probably either a 5,400 rpm or 4,200 rpm. But since that information is not available, I don't know what I would be getting if I ordered it online. Has anyone a clue which speed is Dell offering with this system?

Normally if the RPM is NOT stated it is a 4200 RPM drive but since most manufacturer are NO longer making any 4200 RPM drive and have switched over to 5400 RPM as there main line of notebook drive it could be either, 4200 or 5400.

If you click on Help Me Choose, it shows you the speeds that are available.  If a system lists multiple possible speeds, and the configuration gives you no choices, assume it's the slowest.  My son's 600m last month came with a 5400rpm drive, although we expected a 4200 rpm drive.

I just ordered a 9300 and needed a 7200 RPM/8meg driv efor video editing.  No one could tell me anything before the order was placed.  2 dell support folks by phone and 1 via chat did not have a clue and truely did not know anything about hardware and that there was even a spec for drive rpm.

One told me the drive speed would vary with what  I put on it!  DUH

 

So I order the notebook and then called back 800-879-3355 to change the order and spoke with a great lady named Kris who told me the drive as a 5400 RPM.  I had her change it to the 60 gig 7200 RPM/8 Meg drive for additional cost of ~$100.

Everyone I spoke with EXCEPT Kris was "dumb as a post" WRT hardware issues.

I hope the inspiron 9300 i ordered comes with a 5400 rpm drive.

Notice it says 1 341-2184 100GB HARD DRIVE,5.4K,I9300

I'm assuming 5.4k is 5400 RPM .. the part number is 341-2184, anyone know if that is true?
