I've got the same problem, and yes I am using the right type of card and file format........device appears with a cross against it, remove the device, re-add it, same problem........using xp sp2....
Can anyone assist? Only just got the laptop from dell and none too pleased i'm having to do things like this already.....what happend to QA?
I have had the same problem with the SD card reader. This is the second time I've had the same problem. Resolved the first time by replacing the motherboard. After other steps, they have now replaced the motherboard once again -- this time still not working.

QA? What QA? I is handled by wonderful business model in which every monkey can assemble a laptop and no money-wasting QA is necessary.
Great job Dell, again.
I am quite upset.
