I am having a similar problem (see post above). If it comes down to buying one I'd check eBay. I've been looking at them there just in case... You should be able to get a replacement for about $50. I am considering upgrading to a DVDR but they run $90-$150.
You may want to keep an eye on my post for an answer that could help you too.
