NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A won't burn DVDs

Question

I've had my Inspiron 8600 for about a year now. It burns CD-Rs just fine, and it reads DVDs just fine. It wasn't until a couple of days ago, I tried archiving some of my files on to DVD, and I found out it doesn't work. I'm using Memorex DVD+Rs and Sonic RecordNow Deluxe. Sonic seems to recognize it's a DVD+R and it actually goes through the whole burning process. Though, when it's finished, it's still a blank disc. If I try to explore the DVD I just burned it just comes up as a blank disc. Also, I looked at the discs I've burned and it doesn't look like anything was burned on to them (no burn ring - still looks blank).   I'm not sure if something is wrong with the drive or if it may be a driver thing.

Ahhh, I found out what the problem was. I was using the new 16X DVD+Rs. I picked up some Sony 8X DVD+Rs and they work fine.

I had exactly the same problem with the Memorex 16X discs. I went out and bought generic 8x discs (figured I try a 'worst case' scenario'), and they burn perfectly. No need to update the firmware!

I got this problem with RiData 16x DVDs. Is there any way I can Burn 16x DVDs in NEC ND-6100A Burner. Or it is not possibe.

Will any Firmware update do the trick?

I am having a similar problem myself. I have no trouble burning Memorex, but I can't seem to burn any Mitsumi DVD+Rs even when they are 8x or 4X for that matter. Has anyone else this? Thanks for the help.
