Upgrading 20g HD Western Digigtal Scorpio 80g on a Latitude C-400

Question

I just converted my HD from Fat32 to NTFS and the first thing I did was try to defrag it.  24hrs later, it's still chugging along.  Now I want to upgrade that drive with a new Western Digital Scorpio 80g.  My BIOS is A-12 so there should be no problems there, but I have no floppy drive.  Only a Samsung CD/DVD RW in my CDock II.  When I insert the new drive it does show up in the BIOS, but not in the boot sequence (obviously).  I'm running XP-Pro and only have a few files I want to save.  Oh yea... did I mention I lost my original XP CD?  I have an old '98 CD though.    How can I boot from my CD ROM and install and format this new HD so that at least has the CD drivers?  I was/am worried that for some reason I couldn't boot the system from the optical drive.  Anyway, then I can just buy a new copy of XP and do a fresh install from there.  I hope this makes sense to everyone!  This is the first time I've ever posted on any of these message forums.   Thanks very much in advance for any help offered!!!!   Alwaysoperating

You need one of these to hook up your CD Drive, get it out of the C/dock for OS Install, and also undock the laptop. This cable connects to the strange looking Port on the laptop's rear. It is a substitute for a internal Modular Bay on this model. The CS, LS, and L400 used a similar cable, but they are not interchangeable with this one used only on the C400
