After nearly 2 hours on the online chat support, I was originally told that the problem was software related, and that I should uninstall and reinstall my Pinnacle software. I did that, and it still did not work, I also did a system restore to a point when the drive was working. So the next step they said to reinstall my OS. I declined an told them that it is not software related, becasue the drive simply will not recognize any type of DVD, through any software, including the Sonic pre installed by Dell. Finally Dell agreed to replace the drive with a NEC. I recieved it, and installed it, all is well again. Did not have to reinstall my OS.
Sounds like there is a problem with the Sony drives in the original configuration
Ok. Thats it. Im calling them for a new one. There is no way i am wasting 2 hours of my time though, or I could just go and buy one myself...thats $100 of time.
Thanks, I did the same thing and had the same problem. Its amazing how On Call will tell u the same thing like the other support. I had the same driver and pc, requested a new one(NEC) and now it works. If this happens again im gonna demand someone from dell to come to my home and have them either replace my pc or give me my money back, although that may be impossible.
