OK - got the laptop today and after booting the first time, there was NO DOUBT in my mind that I wanted to do a clean re-install.  It took a long time to boot and the amount of junk in the systray and the desktop was unbelievable!  I have already used the Windows XP disk I paid $10 for to do this, and it sure boots fast and nice.  Another surprising thing... Dell actually DID include a disk with drivers and utilities with the computer.  I have already contacted them about the Trend Micro PC-cillin and DVD decoder software and they are sending it out to me next week.

Anyhow, I would definitely recommend doing a clean reinstall right away if you get the chance.  Even when you think you may have cleared all the registry and files, there are still a lot buried.  A clean laptop is so nice to look at.  There were a couple tricks to get ALL particians removed (3 of them) so that I could claim a single hard drive with all 100GB (OK 95).  But, it was no big deal... just a bit different to get the CD to boot to the right area where I can reformat everything!
