Cannot see CD/DVD ROM Drive throught windows

Question

Hi,   I am not able to see my CD/DVD Drive through Windows explorer nor DOS.   If i go to Device Manager and check Device status it says 'Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)'   I tried uninstal / reinstall of Driver.   But still not fixed.   Will really apprecaite if anybody could help me fix this problem. Thnx Ajay

the Registry Editor here ...........

Ajay,

Can you supply a little more information on the PC, OS you are running along with the name of the CD/DVD drive you are having problems with?

Also, was the drive ever working and if so what was recently performed on the PC?

Knowing this will help.

Hi Thomas   Here are the Details:- System:- Inspiron 5160,Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor 518 (2.80GHz) Drive:-    24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive for Inspiron 5160 ( GCC4243N ) OS:-       Microsoft Windows XP Home   I bought the system approx 1.5 years back it was working fine till last week.   Recently  I removed unwanted software applications to save disk space, i did not delete any files physically, i used Add/Remove programs from Control Panel.   Also i have done a Windows Update Recently.   Let me know if you need to know any other info Thanks Ajay

Hi   That link solved my problem, I deleted the lower filters as mentioned, i did not see any upper filters though. Restarted and my CD/DVD Drive works fine as before.   Thanks A Lot Ajay

Hi,   My CD/DVD ROM drive icon is visible , i can read CD/DVD, but I had never tried writing CD, yesterday I wanted to burn CD but when i try to write CD, it says please insert writable CD. Any guess what could be the reason?   Rgds Ajay
