XPS 400 Recovery Disk not shipped

Hi,   I am having trouble getting this problem resolved:   My PC shipped without a recovery disk. In case of a failure how do I go about getting it up and running again? Can someone please help me?   Given my experience with Dell today (see below), I have lost confidence in them and am seriously wondering if I made a mistake purchasing a Dell.    1. My brand new XPS 400 shipped without a recovery disk. When I ordered the system, the rep did not say any word on this being a separate add-on. 2. It took me about 2 hours and 35 minutes trying to locate the person who would help me, at least that was the theory. No progress on this front. I always was routed to a Dimension Support Technician instead of an XPS Support Technician, who in turn routed me to another Dimension Support Technician. How difficult is to route calls to the right people?   Feeling really irate about this, I tried my luck calling them up in the evening. And the answer to my puzzle of not being able to reach the right people - they are closed for Christmas weekend and open on Tuesday.   If at all any company can make a difference in today's business, it is through customer service. Dell's products are as good as any competitors. If only they can get thier act together on this. The XP CD is a $10 option at purchase. You can request one after purchase as long as your warranty is in place. Call or email Dell.

Hi, Joe:

You can request replacement discs on this page. I'm not absolutely certain they still offer this, but it used to be free. It doesn't matter if your warranty is expired.

By the way, in the event the offer has been discontinued, the next best thing is to borrow a Dell operating system disc that matches your version (home or pro) and simply make a copy of it.
