I was only suggesting that you post whatever technical difficulties you may be having here in hopes you might get the problem resolved using the advice of the many knowledgeable forum members who post here. Good luck with the new Gateway.

When I look at my posting, I think I stated my problem! When I contact tech support the only people I get -speak English as a second language. And they don't do that all so well. There is a reason BUSINESS accounts are directed to U.S.A. support. They are tired of not being able to communicate with so-called help. Dell has given me an excellent reason to switch to GATEWAY, it is an American Company.

I guess sometimes it's more fun to complain than to seek a solution?

Robnolex,    Wonderful input - - what are you doing sitting back and watching?

What does it take to get you stimulated? Dell is not the all mighty. Look at the stock market--Dell DELL- DELL-- If they are going to rely on an American market-- why not speak the language? If we were Big business they would send our support to Texas too. Have a nicer day!

This is the 'Dimension: Hard Drive' board. Do you have a problem with or questions about your hard drive? If so, please tell us about it so that we might assist you. Otherwise, this is not the appropriate board for your posts.

I hope that the support is done fast.

I am having a problem in installing a 200g hard drive that i just bought. My new system  is DIMENSION XPS EXTREME EDITION with INTEL RAID 0 (250 G TOTAL 2 HARD DRIVE OF 120G).

The new drive is EIDE and I have installed as master and as slave, but it does not work. The cable is connected to PRIMARY IDE and its the only drive on the cable. Also I have DVD WRITE ON SECONDARY IDE.

Please help.

Yes I am having problems with my hard drive. I bought the 2400 in Oct. It has had one hard drive replaced because it kept locking up and then just failed. Now it is doing the exact same thing. I talked to TS and they had me reload OS . They left me on my own then to wait for this to finish and it did not help. Just get a blue screen "unloadable_boot_-----" Seems to me 2 hard drives in this short time period is a bit much.

I then called back and was disconnected twice. My first message is asking for domestic help with my hard drive. I just need to talk to someone whom I can understand. I am sure you have had this problem in the past since it has made national news. All I need is a phone number or contact in this country!

Set jumpers to Cable Select and connect the HDD to the Primary Master connector on the EIDE cable.  When booting enter the BIOS when prompted (F2) and set the Primary Master to AUTO.

Unfortunately we all are limited to the same support phone numbers, and even those of us who are happy with our Dell products will be the first to acknowledge that Dell tech support has reached an embarrassingly low quality level.

If it were me, I might give them just one more crack at fixing the problem and if they don't succeed insist on having them send you a new computer. Or you could just skip the first part and request a new computer now.

Remember to be firm and persistent but polite, no matter how bad the service from Dell. The friendly, squeaky wheel gets the good grease!
