Hard drive setting in an enclosure

Question

I have a hard drive that I want to put into a 3.5' enclosure. What setting do you use on the hard drive? Master? Slave? Cable select? (Its a 250 gig Seagate and a ADS USB hard drive enclosure kit.) Any help would be appreciated.( I will be using it to create/store backup of main C drive) Thanks in advance. con1link If this is an IDE drive, I set my external HD to master.   Bev.

master? why? are you sure?! I know one usually has to set the internal drive ( C:) to master not the external. Would you please explain why? please. Just curiosity!

Actually, for Dell computers, the internal drives are set to Cable Select.

My external drive's instructions also call for Master, it's master of it's channel.
