Maybe I lied. I think it's stuck in DMA mode 2. The DVD writer might be in PIO mode.
In Device Manager, under Disk Drives, the Maxtor drive (SATA) says "Location 0(0)", the Seagate drive (PATA) says "Location 0(0)" and for the DVD, it says "Location 1(1)". Under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, Primary Channel for SATA says "Device 0" is DMA Mode 5 & "Device 1" is N/A. Primary Channel for PATA says "Device 0" is DMA Mode 2 & "Device 1" is PIO Only. I presume "Location 0(0)" correlates to "Device 0", both PATA.
I forgot to mention that I did check that too. In fact, it looked like it was off. However, when I "switched it on" and rebooted, the BIOS said there weren't any drives connected and Windows couldn't see the drives (HD & DVD on PATA). Maybe I turned on the wrong PATA port or something. I know none of that makes sense. I'll try again in a little while when I can reboot.
Good work. I doubt it's due to Master/Slave. In fact if you want to boot from your CD/DVD drive, it must be Master. A slave optical drive won't boot. I'd change it back. Let us know if that is successful.
Both of my CD/DVD drives are showing as DMA mode 2.
That did it!! While I tried this before and it didn't work, this time I believe the difference is that my HD is setup as master and the DVD drive is setup as slave. Previously, they were both cable select.
Anyway, now it is all working perfectly. Thanks for the help!!

P.S. Should the DVD drive only be DMA mode 2? Can it even make it to mode 5 (i.e., is it throughput limited)?
I tried setting it back to CS with the HD first and the DVD on the end connector and it doesn't work. I was back to the way it was originally. I also tried setting the HD as slave and the DVD as master (using jumpers, also with DVD on end connector) and the BIOS wouldn't even recognize any PATA drive. I set it all back to the way it works and everything is good.
BTW, I tried booting from a DVD (with current/working configuration) and it booted just fine. So, not sure what's up there.
Oh well. I got it working and that's enough debug for me. :) Thanks for all your help!!
