Look in the Device Manager and click the (+) next to DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Are the drives there?  If not then ........

Uninstall the Primary IDE Channel, located in the Device Manager under
IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, and reboot to allow Windows to reinstall it.

I have done that and made sure that they were on. I also opened up the computer and made sure none of the cables were loose.

No information on either of my drivers is coming up in the windows menu or bios menu. Not sure what to do.

Enter the Set-up (BIOS) and find the drives.  The CD drives will
be PATA Drives 0 and PATA Drive 1.  Make sure they are set to ON.

This is puzzling.  You can try to clear the NVRAM and see if that
will help.  Instructions here ........

Can I assume the drives came with the system?

To clear the NVRAM in a Dimension 9100, follow these instructions for clearing
the the CMOS settings ........

If your scroll up the page, you will see the location of the jumper (RTCRST) on the
motherboard.

By resettng the bios and settin the diskette drive to off i have stopped the erros form popping up when i turn my computer on. However when i tried to put the pata 0 and pata 1 drives to on it then said driver 3 and driver 4 not found so i just turned those off. I would assume i need those on for the cd/dvd drives to be recognized but when i  turn them on the erro comes. Please help
