Hi NeDDog,
A couple of things, first dealing with the installation, Dell ships their systems using the Cable Select Feature, if these drives were added as a second drive on the same IDE cable with anothr optical drive, check your jumper settings, do not mix`n match, use cS for both or MS / SL.
Second, you do need a DVD player / decoder that is compatible with Windows XP, many that worked with Windows 9x / ME and some 200, will not work with XP.

Thanks for the reply..

 

Actually I made sure that the drives were set to master and Slave on IDE2, however IDE1 may be on CS I will check. The software programs I was using included Windows MEdia Player from MIcro and WINDVD 4.. I think both of those are uaseable with XP no?

Amazingly.... folowing some of the info on the board, I was able to explore a dvd from explorer. No crashing or anything, it was only when I tried to actually watch a dvd that everything came to a haly
